Yoga practitioners in the United States often focus on Asana (postures), sometimes forgetting Pranayama, another vital step on the Eight Limbs Yoga Path. Pranayama, or yogic breathing, relieves stress, improves concentration, aids digestion, deepens our physical yoga practice, and ultimately prepares us for extended meditation.
Dragonfly’s Pranayama Workhops are designed as an introduction into Hatha Yoga breathing techniques. In these workshops, we’ll learn to prepare our senses and postures for pranayama through asana, various exercises and introductory meditation/relaxation techniques. In addition to practicing specific types of pranayama, we’ll also take a look at how breathing affects the body.
Our goal will be to safely bring pranayama into our everyday routine, as well as our everyday asana practice. Dragonfly Teacher Training Students will also leave with knowledge of incorporating more pranayama into their yoga classes.
The Workshop Series is designed for students of Dragonfly’s 200 Hour Teacher Training, but everyone is welcome to enroll. You do not need to attend the workshops in order. Beginners are welcome, but we strongly encourage you to attend some regularly scheduled yoga classes before enrolling.

ABOUT INSTRUCTOR JOE SIMEK
Joe Simek is a Certified Yoga Therapist, 500-Hour Level Yoga Teacher, and Co-owner of Dragonfly Yoga Studio. Joe has been practicing yoga for more than a decade, using the wisdom of the teachings to lose weight, get sober, and abandon the corporate grind. In 2012, he formalized his yoga education, completing Dragonfly’s 200 HR Yoga Teacher Training. Joe went on to study Yoga Therapy and Peaceful Weight Loss Through Yoga with Brandt Passalacqua of Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy (where he is now a Teaching Assistant) and Advanced Vinyasa Yoga with Rolf Gates. In 2016, Joe co-founded The Fiaria Project, a non-profit organization that aids foster children. He is also the frontman of Destroy It Up, an indie rock music project inspired by yoga philosophy. Joe holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Arizona State University.
