So much is unknown about COVID-19. What appears to be very clear, is that this virus ultimately effects the lungs and a person’s ability to breath. Yoga cannot cure coronavirus, or any virus for that matter. But there is long tradition of breathing methods within yoga practices, known collectively as pranayama, which can be helpful for respiratory health.
In this time of dealing with coronavirus, increasing our facility with breathing is a good idea. Not only as a preventative measure if one was to contract the virus, but also because we may need to be comfortable breathing with a restrictive mask on for some time.
In these four hour-long workshops, Joe Simek, a certified yoga therapist and long time yoga teacher, will be teaching pranayama techniques that will help exercise our respiratory systems. Although we will keep in mind the energetic effects of breathing, our focus will be on:
• Using and strengthening our diaphragms
• Increasing our tidal volume of breath
• Expanding our ability to exhale forcefully
• Moving our bodies to facilitate breathing efficiency
This workshop is designed for the any level of experience with yoga or pranayama. It is NOT recommended for anyone currently diagnosed with COVID-19 and the breathing practices are not specifically recommended for those with the virus. If you have any medical conditions, we highly recommend speaking with a doctor first before taking this class.
Come experience the helpful effects of purposeful breathing for a sustained period and prepare yourself for possible challenges ahead! This workshop will be online only.

ABOUT INSTRUCTOR JOE SIMEK
Joe Simek is a Certified Yoga Therapist, 500-Hour Level Yoga Teacher, and Co-owner of Dragonfly Yoga Studio. Joe has been practicing yoga for more than a decade, using the wisdom of the teachings to lose weight, get sober, and abandon the corporate grind. In 2012, he formalized his yoga education, completing Dragonfly’s 200 HR Yoga Teacher Training. Joe went on to study Yoga Therapy and Peaceful Weight Loss Through Yoga with Brandt Passalacqua of Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy (where he is now a Teaching Assistant) and Advanced Vinyasa Yoga with Rolf Gates. In 2016, Joe co-founded The Fiaria Project, a non-profit organization that aids foster children. He is also the frontman of Destroy It Up, an indie rock music project inspired by yoga philosophy. Joe holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Arizona State University.
